taurus g4x review

Taurus G4x Review - Taurus is looking to take on the big boys with its new pistol, designed for maximum concealment without sacrificing power or ergonomics - the GX4.

The 11+1 gun 9mm is the popular .380 "pocket" size, using a 3.06-inch barrel to taper to an overall length of 6.05-inches. The gun is thin, just over an inch wide, and measures 4.4 inches at its longest. Unloaded weight is 18.6 oz. Fully loaded with 12 rounds of 147-grain JHPs, we got our test gun to hit the scales at 23.9 oz.

Compared to other recent Micro 9s, such as the Ruger MAX-9, Sig Sauer P365, Smith & Wesson Shield Plus, and Springfield Armory Hellcat, the GX4 is a dead ringer as far as size goes. In addition, its slide-fit grips hold one more round than a comparable magazine from a Sig or S&W while on par with a Springer and less than a Ruger.

Taking Taurus' already popular G3C model, which boasts 12 + 1 capacity, the GX4 is considered smaller and lighter. (All photos: Chris Eger/)

The same can be said when compared to the Glock 43, one of the longtime kings of the 9mm CCW market.

Unlike other Micro 9s on the market, the GX4 is not yet offered in an optics-ready format, although it should be noted that Taurus has recently added the Toro series to its legacy G3 line, this is the possibility that the GX4 has a red color. Dot cutting should not be canceled in the future.

Also, unlike other micros out there, the GX4 has a $392 asking price, which dwarfs the competition. Currently the closest thing to that price is the Ruger MAX-9 with an MSRP of $499, with other guns running north of that, especially on tricked-out models.

The Taurus GX4 is built with a polymer grip on an internal stainless frame and a flexible, snag-free profile.

The Taurus uses an aggressive stop pattern on the front of the grip, on the side of the pan, the full length of the backstrap, as well as in front of the trigger at the index pad.

Fitted is the standard backstrap, while a high-slung backstrap is included for those looking for a higher wrist position for handling. Note the take-down pin system, instead of the lever, as well as the front and rear slides.

Manufactured by Make-Gar in Italy, they have rear sight holes, a yellow follower, and a bottom plate that screws into the underside of the pistol grip. Taurus offers the option of an 11-rounder with a finger extension for those who want a longer grip as well as a 13-round extended magazine with a grip sleeve.

Instead of plastic, which is often seen on most pistols sold for use, the GX4 features a metal target with a white front post and a shift-adjustable dovetail black out square-notch rear sight with a gloss finish. spine reduction They use a common aftermarket pattern for easy replacement of tritium or fiber-optic sights.

To combat the environment, the GX4 has a stainless steel barrel with a satin black DLC (diamond-like carbon) treatment while a gas nitride coating increases the hardness of the sliding surface. Meanwhile, the control units have a Teflon coating and the sliding metal stand has a polymer overmolding. Metal internals are nickel-plated.

The GX4 ships in a clamshell lockable box with two 11-round mags, a high-quality rear sight, manuals, and a gun lock.

So far we've had hundreds of spins in it without issue, and we've found the trigger to break in at a flat 90-degree angle with minimal pick-up and an average 6-pound pull, so stay tuned for a full review in the coming days. . . Shown here is a DeSantis Indoor Heat IWB holster that fits like a glove. Taurus just released what may be the most affordable subcompact 9mm pistol ever on the market. The Taurus GX4 is the company's answer to similar pistols like the SIG P365, Springfield Hellcat, and Ruger Max-9. I was sent a Taurus GX4 gun a month before it officially went online and got to put the gun through its paces, pick it up and really see the value that Taurus has put into this new gun. So today I'm going to share my thoughts on the new carry patch and hopefully give you a good idea if it's a viable option to add to your private carry cycle.

Taurus G2c Review 2021

From what I can tell, Taurus is trying to break away from some of its past practices that include shipping its boats in a cardboard box. While I don't like to keep my guns in their original cases, some people like to keep them in order to keep things organized and carry their guns to and from the center. The GX4 comes in a plastic box with two 11-round magazines, a large grip insert, and a GX4 manual.

Right off the bat, I noticed that the GX4 was a new beast compared to their older guns like the G2C and G3C. The design of the pistol is completely different compared to the older models of Taurus pistols and even includes a new trigger and lacks a manual safety which I'm glad Taurus had the courage to do. Like most modern pistols, the GX4 comes with front slide serrations, and a grip texture like skateboard tape. The pistol also has texture memory pads on both sides of the frame.

One thing that carries over from the G3C pistol to the GX4 is the front of the pistol. This bend makes returning the pistol to your holster easier. Included visuals include a metallic white dot front and a black-out serrated back. I would have liked the Taurus to have taken the opportunity to have 3-dot white sights or even tritium night sights as an option, but they said the GX4 would be more suited to nighttime situations.

After playing with the gun for a few days before arriving at the site, I couldn't wait to get it out. During my hard fire experience, I found the new trigger Taurus developed for the GX4 to be very good. It's not a race car by any means but it's one of the best triggers on a subcompact pistol I've seen. Whatever Taurus did with the GX4 trigger, they should do the same with their future semi-auto striker-pistols.

A small take on one part of this and then there's only a tiny bit visible in front of the trigger before it makes a clean break with a noticeable zero pass. After the bullet travels downward, the trigger adjustment is just a hair over an eighth of an inch until it makes a good strategic reset. In my testing at home, I found the trigger pull weight to be accurate around 4lbs.

I found that the grip text is where I want it. It wasn't extreme but it wasn't there. Carrying it in my usual belly band showed no irritation or chafing, and the gas nitride coated slide held up to the sweat and daily wear and tear with the belly band and LAG tactical holster done.

I fed the GX4 a mixed dose of recycled ammo, along with a bag of ammo from the "secret box". The ammo box is usually left over from the factory ammo box along with my other carry cases which is not a regular occurrence for me. The gun performed well with all shots and even after firing two magazines of the gun remaining +P, everything still works as it should. I've had magazines in the past that don't fit Federal HST 147gr ammo in full magazines but fit the 11-round GX4 magazines that Mec-Gar makes perfectly.

Taurus is offering some 13-round magazines that will launch with the GX4 and I want to try them out with the pistol at the stage. I don't have big hands but I noticed that my pinky was only used when holding a pistol. I'm guessing that the 13-round magazine has some kind of pinky extension that I think would have handled it better with follow-up shots.

Taurus 9mm Gx4s

I am very pleased with the Taurus GX4. Taurus is proving here that just because a pistol is cheap doesn't mean it needs to be

Everything from the new magazines to the greatly improved new trigger is huge in my book when it comes to this particular type of gun. A few things I would have liked to see that were not provided were night vision options from the factory, cutting optics (which I believe is coming).
