The result is a nice-looking handgun that, while affordable, doesn't feel cheap. Due to the rifle's design, it weighs 15.3 ounces.
Handgun fit is excellent. For most hand sizes, the .22 military and police is balanced and fast.
An 18° grip angle - meaning the handle is at an 18° angle to the line of the bit - ensures good guidance.
This is a fun exercise for shooting the smaller B27 form at 10 yards. The M&P22 is very accurate for most household tasks.

This rifle uses a standard spring and guide rod. Operation, disassembly and handling are easy enough and the trigger is clean.
Magazines are well-made and ten rounds. I like the magazines better than the standard polymer or cheap tin ones.
Some .22s just look cheap, but this pistol is not. This design is not primarily a plinker, but intended for personal protection.
Likewise, the pistol is very accurate for casual target shooting and sniping. It's also accurate enough to be useful.

Not long ago, it was unusual to shoot a .22 LR brick with 500 rounds without experiencing several incomplete rounds or rounds with the bullet bending sideways on the feed ramp.
Recently, I was part of a group that fired almost 2,000 rounds of .22 LR without a single misfire or misfeed. This is unusual in my experience.
M&P magazines are easy to load and ready. In addition, the pistol slide is easy to install.

I started shooting with a cheap Winchester Wildcat, an authentic 40 grain. I fired several boxes with good results.
Firing at man-sized targets at five, seven and ten yards, the Little Smith was maneuverable and fast on target.

For those who have trouble handling a high-impact handgun, the M&P22 is a good all-around handgun for defense and recreation - except for the caliber, but then the .22 LR is a useful cartridge.

As far as field guns go, the M&P22 is easier to use and more accurate than most kit gun revolvers.
If you're using a .22 for self defense, a ten-round autoloader is way ahead of a rimfire revolver.
Then I tested the absolute accuracy of the pistol. Shooting from a standing trench position, I fired several five-shot groups at 15 yards.
I used Winchester Wildcat as well as Winchester Super X 37-grain hollowpoint. A 16oz handgun isn't the easiest to hold steady, but the pistol produced good results.

Most five-shot groups were two inches or less. With a fully adjustable rear sight on the pistol, the M&P22 is a great field gun.

The original M&P was a revolver, not a semi-automatic. The M&P name officially appeared in 1899, when S&W introduced the .38 Military & Police revolver. Shortened to .38 M&P. This revolver chambered in .38 spl was the standard police weapon until the 20th century.

The military aspect appeared during World War II, when about a million of these weapons were produced for the military. This gun, later named Model 10, is still in service. The four-inch version of the Model 10 with a 6-shot cylinder and fixed sight is purchased for several purposes, the most important being home defense or concealed carry.
Moving forward to 2005, S&W decided to expand its M&P line by releasing a series of semi-automatic pistols under the M&P brand. The first handgun calibers included the 9mm and .40 S&W. Finally, .45 ACP, .22 LR and .380 pistols were introduced. The name even carried over to rifles with the introduction of the M&P15 series, S&W's take on the AR platform.
The 5.56mm version was released in 2005 and the .22 LR version in 2009. Our compact .22 rifle is from 2013. The M&P line has been a solid line for S&W since its first revolver was introduced 121 years ago. It's hard to say if we've seen the end of M&P guns.

You can't see it, but there is a hammer - this weapon has no striker. Note that the barrel is bolted to the frame like most .22 pistol barrels. A delete lever makes field deletion easy. This is a good place to enter quick removal instructions.
This is a different type of trigger safety than the blade trigger safety used by Glock among others. You just need to pull the bottom hinge to move the trigger back. This also protects the weapon from exploding if dropped, among other scenarios.
